Phato Safari Zone

The Phato Safari Zone is a scenic and less-explored region of Jim Corbett National Park, located in the southern part of the park near Ramnagar, Uttarakhand. Known for its dense forests, tranquil streams, and abundant wildlife, Phato provides a peaceful and immersive experience for nature enthusiasts, wildlife photographers, and bird watchers.

About the Phato Zone

The Phato Zone features a mix of Sal forests, grasslands, and riverine ecosystems, creating a diverse habitat for a variety of wildlife. Visitors can often spot Elephants, Deer, Wild Boars, Langurs, and occasionally the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger in its natural habitat. The area is also rich in birdlife, offering sightings of Hornbills, Kingfishers, Eagles, and other rare species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The tranquil streams and natural ponds in the zone enhance the scenic beauty and attract wildlife, providing excellent photography opportunities.

Safari Experience

The Phato Jeep Safari allows tourists to explore the wilderness comfortably. Each safari vehicle accommodates up to six visitors, guided by a trained forest official and driver. Safaris are conducted in two shifts—morning and afternoon—to maximize wildlife sightings. The safari route takes you through dense forest trails, open meadows, and along water bodies, offering a close-up experience of the park’s flora and fauna.

Best Time to Visit

The Phato Zone is open from November to June, closing during the monsoon season to ensure safety and conservation. The ideal period for wildlife spotting is between November and April, when the animals are more active and visible.
